Namaste!

Ever wondered exactly what “Namaste” means when your teacher says it to you at the end of class? I always guessed, like everyone else, it meant: “thanks for showing up for class.” In the simplest sense, it does mean that, but what it literally translates to is something more meaningful: “I bow to you.” The concept of bowing in yoga has a special context beyond mere gratitude…it means that we are acknowledging the divine wisdom and truth within ourselves (“Ong Na Mo Guru Dev Namo“) and in others, (“Namaste”). The teacher is thanking you for bringing your own unique truth and wisdom to the class, which makes YOU the teacher as well as student.
