The 10 Best Yoga Poses for Men

A great slideshow of poses that work well for men

“Men often suffer from tightness particularly in the hips, hamstrings, and shoulders that can lead to injury or weakness,” says Baron Baptiste, renowned power yoga expert and assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. “Over-training in any one sport can cause repetitive stress and other more serious injuries. Yoga is a full-body workout that creates both strength and flexibility. [They] need to have both. One without the other is a recipe for disaster.”

Interested in hearing from other yoga instructors and men out there…I know that when I have taught men, I’ve seen them struggle with a certain move…for example, coming out of down dog and stepping one foot forward between the front hands for lunge or warrior 1. Something about the way men are built in terms of torso/quadriceps length, makes this generally difficult for them.

The only pose in the 10 suggested that I’m not sure I agree will work for men is Hero Pose. Most people find that one difficult as it requires tremendous flexibility in the knee ligaments. I would definitely put a bolster under the bum to take the stress off the knees.
